President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in a significant move aimed at streamlining government operations, has announced the dissolution of the Ministry of Niger Delta and the Ministry of Sports Development. These decisions were made during a Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting held on Wednesday, October 23.
In a statement released by presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, it was revealed that the government will establish a new Ministry of Regional Development. This ministry will oversee all regional development commissions, including the Niger Delta Development Commission, North West Development Commission, South West Development Commission, and North East Development Commission.
The restructuring also includes a shift in responsibilities for sports management, as the National Sports Commission will now assume the functions previously handled by the Ministry of Sports Development.
Furthermore, the FEC has approved the merger of the Ministry of Tourism with the Ministry of Culture and Creative Economy, indicating a strategic effort to consolidate resources and enhance efficiency within the government.
These changes reflect President Tinubu’s commitment to restructuring the administration for better governance and regional development across Nigeria.
