The Nigerian Bar Association, NBA has instituted an action at the Federal High Court Abuja to challenge the purported elongation of Mr Mohammed Adamu’s tenure as Inspector General of Police, IGP.
Everyevery.ng gathered that the suit was filed against President Muhammadu Buhari, the Police Service Commission, and the Federation’s Attorney General, AGF, Mohammed Adamu.
President of the Asociation, Olumide Akpata said the NBA seeks a judicial determination of the constitutionality of the purported extension of Mr Adamu’s tenure as IGP for three months.
Akpata noted that the IGP had, on 1 Feb 2021, attained 35 years of service as a member of the Nigeria Police Force as stipulated under the Police Act 2020.
He described the legal battle as such that is in line with the Motto of the NBA, which seeks to promote the Rule of Law.
Akpata said the NBA’s decision to file the suit is underpinned by the urgent need to reiterate the supremacy of the rule of law in the face of the country’s growing impunity.
According to him, the NBA will continue to condemn lawlessness in any form and from all quarters.
