Portugal hammered the Super Eagles of Nigeria in their World Cup warm-up game last night. The European side beat Nigeria 4-0 to put fear in the minds of their group opponents as they eye the start of the World Cup come Sunday. It’s a cheering result for Fernando Santos’ men.
The Super Eagles of Nigeria were not able to hold the Portuguese side which played with their skipper and star player Cristiano Ronaldo. The two first goals came in the first half of the game through Manchester United star player Bruno Fernandes.
The star player opened the scoring early in the game when his United teammate Dalot played a pass for him from the corner side before scoring the second from the penalty spot. The Portuguese can hardly expect to enjoy strolls like that in Qatar.
The other two goals came in the second half of the game and even though Nigeria had the chance to put one through from the penalty spot, Emmanuel Dennis missed the penalty and Rui Patricio did well to put the ball out.
Portugal will get their World Cup campaign started against an African team Ghana on 24 November. For Nigeria, it’s now three straight losses in all competitions and six friendly defeats in a row. They’re not going to be at the World Cup, and it isn’t a happy time to be a Super Eagle.
