POLITICAL THOUGHTS (FOCUS ON POLITICIANS)

Share

It’s said that politicians are the same all over, promising to build a bridge even where there is no river, or is it peculiar to Africans alone?

I ask myself, what the intentions and motivational factors are for African politicians before venturing into politics. I believe that from the ashes of the old, a new Africa shall be born. Our leaders must firstly redefine the cabins in the continent’s ship, and not put the heavy luggages only in front. They must give no room for sycophancy. Hence, African leaders should inculcate the principle of enlightened self-interest. “He who thinks he is leading and has no one following him is only taking a walk”.

Leadership is all about influence. So politicians must embrace positive morals by knowing that oppression and repression of masses or the citizens is wrong. African leaders should note that no matter where they are on the leadership ladder, developing the ladder within them will inspire others through committed, visionary leadership. They should know that the best investment in the future is a proper influence today.

Furthermore, Our African politicians should aim for real service and become activist in government. To give real service, one must add attributes that cannot be bought or measured with money. Attributes like sincerity, integrity, good will and unbiased mindset among others should be constantly in their mind.

However, African leaders most keep on organising and not agonising. Letting go of all but holding on to one’s true value, we prosper. Just like Mahatma Gandhi’s philosophical quote that “A man is but the product of his thoughts, what he thinks he becomes”. Hence, African politician should channel their energy and thoughts towards the betterment of this great continent and only then, can we begin to expect the Africa of our dreams.
