The Delta State Governor, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa has on Monday announced that his administration will today inaugurate a panel of enquiry to look into police reforms in the state. According to the governor, the Nigerian Police Force has a crucial role to play in serving and protecting all citizens.
However, governor Okowa stated that the role of police must be played civilly, hence, the need for inaugurating the panel of enquiry. Okowa had earlier announced that the Delta State Government has constituted an eight-member Judicial Panel of Enquiry to investigate allegations of police brutality and extra-judicial killings in the state.
Also, he said all the protesters that were previously detained by the Police in Ughelli have been released in line with his commitment to meet all the legitimate requests of the #EndSARS protesters in Delta State.
In the same vein, the Oyo State government had on Sunday created an email account and a section on the state’s website for residents of the state to report incidences of police violations and brutality.
In a statement signed by Taiwo Adisa, the Press Secretary to governor Seyi Makinde, the state government said that plans were underway to set up a judicial panel that will look into the various forms of abuses and violations that are reported.
According to Adisa, governor Makinde, gave this directive at the weekend in line with his earlier stance that the grievances of the EndSARS protesters, which bother on police brutality, must be addressed by the government.
It was further announced that residents of the state can report cases of police violations via the email address, reportpolice@mail.oyostate.gov.ng.
