Top officials of the People’s Democratic Party will be meeting on Thursday 18th June to deliberate Obaseki’s fate. Following the disqualification of the current governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki, at the screening process of the APC in the state, Obaseki has shown interest in joining the opposition party. He is also seeking a ticket to re-contest in the upcoming governorship election in the state.
Godwin Obaseki had been in contact with major party leaders in PDP in the last couple of days. He has met with Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State and many others. He met with them before announcing his resignation from APC following his disqualification from participating in the primaries.
Still, in line with his resignation from APC, his deputy Philip Shaibu and many key politicians in the state including Local Government Chairmen, and members of the House of Assembly in Edo State resigned as well.
Apparently, the leadership of PDP is not meeting to discuss the possibility of adopting him into the party and offering him the ticket to contest as proposed in his former party.
