Paul Quits International Football

Manchester United playmaker Paul Pogba has quit international football after the French government decided to honour a teacher who published an offensive image of the prophet Muhammad. Mr Samuel Paty who is the teacher was awarded the French Legion d’honneur, the highest decoration bestowed by the French state, in recognition of the fact that he died for trying to explain the importance of freedom of speech.

Paul Pogba was not happy about the decision made by the France Government, according to various Middle Eastern news sources, the 27-year-old or the French Football Association has not really commented on the speculation of the player who is said to have quit international football. The Manchester United playmaker alleged decision comes in the wake of the beheading of the 47-year-old teacher Samuel Paty, who was attacked on his way home from the junior high school where he taught in Conflans-Sainte-Honorine, 40km northwest of Paris.

President Macron described the attack on the French teacher which claimed his life as an “Islamic terrorist attack.” The president later said: “Unity and firmness are the only answers to the monstrosity of Islamist terrorism.”Paul Pogba’s resignation from international football was made known on Sunday in the Arabic sports website 195sports.com, the site said that the decision to grant Samuel Paty teacher the Legion d’honneur and the comments were the motivation for his decision to stop playing as a French international. Paul Pogba sees the decision an insult to him and to French Muslims, especially since Islam is the second religion in France after Christianity
