During a lecture in Lagos, Dr Akinwumi Adesina, the African Development Bank (AfDB) president, said that the bank is aiming 2025 to create 25 million new jobs. The lecture was titled “Social Media, National Security and Social Change: Bridging the Gap for Development in Africa.”
The President highlighted the opportunities for Nigeria’s Digital and Creative Enterprises (i-DICE). According to him, the bank is preparing to invest half a billion dollars in the program. He emphasised potential Nigeria has for its digital financial services.
Over 20 million New Jobs by 2025 – AfDB
Adesina explained that i-DICE would promote job creation, entrepreneurship and innovation in the digital sector. He explained that the program would make Nigeria global in the creative and digital industries.
Adesina highlighted the progress African start-ups had made in this space, such as Tyme Bank, Yabacon Valley and Flutterwave. He emphasised that these companies – Paystack, Flutterwave and Interswitch had over one billion dollar valuations and had thus put Nigeria on the map.
The President emphasised the need for every Nigerian to have access to the internet and financial inclusion.
