Nnamdi Kanu's Return
The leader of the IPOB Nnamdi Kanu’s return for his parents, Late Eze Israel Okwu Kanu and Ugoeze Sally Kanu has attracted a lot of tension in his community. Although, it is barely two weeks to the burial which is scheduled for February 14th 2020. The residents of the Afaraukwu Ibeku community, in Umuahia North Council of Abia State, are scampering for safety. An action that took effect following an “invasion” of over 101 military personnel in the community.
The community residents noted that; the hostile atmosphere was created due to an invasion of more than 101 hostile looking soldiers in the community. These soldiers who are fully dressed in their military wear and accompanied with their military colored patrol vans stormed at mid-day on Sunday. Hence, blocking all roads leading to Nnamdi Kanu’s compound. The motive of the solders has not been officially made known to us, but, we believe they are here to forcefully prevent IPOB members from attending the burial.
The tension has, however, forced shop owners within the community to close down their businesses as most streets and major roads have been abandoned in fear. An action which invariably affects both economic and social-economic aspects of the community, state, and the nation at large. The younger brother of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Prince Emmanuel Kanu also confirmed the current state of things in the community. Adding his voice, he said that community residents, visitors and road users who tried to access the road that leads to the palace turn back on sighting the heavy military presence.
Although, the military source in Umuahia dismissed the report of the invasion. We hope to hear from the military spokesperson very soon. we will keep you informed as the news unfolds.
