Ondo State University of Science and Technology (OSUSTECH) located in Okitipupa, Ondo State, Nigeria is be renamed after ex-governor, Dr. Olusegun Agagu. The governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Odunayo Akeredolu disclosed this information. This would be a post-humus honor for the Okitipupa-born ex-governor.
Speaking in the town where he had come to show appreciation on the success of the House of Assembly polls, the governor said the new House of Assembly members representing the Okitipupa constituency would take it as their first point of action in the parliamentary house.
OSUSTECH was established in September 2010 while learning starts in January 2011. It was the dream of the ex-governor to have a University in the Southern senatorial district of the state. The state already had two universities in the other senatorial districts of the state; Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko in the North and Federal University of Technology Akure in the central. The government led by Dr. Olusegun Agagu couldn’t complete the project as the election petition tribunal ends his new term hopes.
It is a good move by the current government of Ondo State to rename OSUSTECH after its founder, Dr. Olusegun Agagu. The ex-governor was an academia, an astute politician and businessman. Meanwhile, the new government has embarked on several projects such as the tarring of the roads which lead to the campus and provision of equipment for the university.
The university has both the faculty of science and technology accredited by the National University Commission (NUC). Lists of courses offered in the University are; Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Science and Information Technology, Geology, Geophysics, Industrial Chemistry, Mechanical Engineering, Microbiology, Polymer Engineering, Metallurgical and Material Engineering and Zoology and so on. Renaming the institution after the ex-minister of Power and Steel would be a feat achieved by the present day government.
