A former Edo state governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomole, has been accused of defrauding the people of the state under the guise of the 30 Billion naira Benin stormwater project.
Governor Godwin Obaseki accused the Oshiomhole-led administration of engaging in the fraudulent act during his tenure as the Edo state governor.
Obaseki made the allegation when he inspected the Textile Mill Road catchment of Benin City’s project, adding that Oshiomhole’s N30bn water project was a waste of public funds.
According to Obaseki, the water project was a ruse that had no benefit for Edo state. However, the governor vowed that his administration would probe the project and recover money stolen.
Governor Obaseki further described the stormwater project as a fraud.
The Edo governor said the Oshiomhole-led administration has to explain how it spent the N30 billion on a project which does not drain water anywhere.
Meanwhile, Obaseki has expressed satisfaction with the pace of construction work at Ekehuan 8.3km Road. He reiterated his commitment to delivering quality and durable roads to Edo people.
Obaseki emphasised the need to scientifically undertake proper draining of the environment before constructing and covering the road’s surface.
