Oscars 2022: Chris Rock Apologize to Will Smith’s Family

American comedian Chris Rock has apologized to Will Smith’s family for making a joke out of Jada Pinkett Smith’s condition.

Recall that Chris Rock was at the receiving end of a slap from Will Smith while he was on the Oscars stage on Sunday night.

Chris Rock likened Jada Pinkett’s bald hair to that of “G.I Jane II”, despite Pinkett’s revelation of Alopecia diagnosis in 2018.

In a sudden turn of events, Will Smith was not pleased with the joke, walked up to the stage, slapped Rock on the face and walked back to his sit shouting “Keep my wife’s name out of your fucking mouth.”

Chris Rock Pens Open Apology

The actor apologized for his assault on the comedian, with the Oscars academy also opening an investigation into the incident.

Chris Rock on Tuesday also penned his heartfelt apology to the Smith’s family through his Social media manager, noting that comedy should not be used to mock people’s reality.

He wrote, “As a comedian, it can be difficult to understand which lines are to be crossed and which ones aren’t. Last night I crossed a line that I shouldn’t have and paid the enormous price of my reputation as a renowned comedian.

“Comedy is never about poking fun at or making lite of people with major ordeals happening in their lives. Comedy is about using real-life circumstances to create laughter and bring light to an otherwise dark world.

”With that said, I sincerely apologise to my friends Jada Pickett-Smith, Will Smith, and the rest of the Smith family for the disrespect and disregard I displayed which was unfortunately broadcast for the world to see.

”I hope that, with time, forgiveness can come of this situation and we can all be better, more considerate people in the end”
