Oritsefemi Supports Police Brutality, Uses Victim's Video
Singer Oritsefemi has been accused of supporting police brutality on civilians. Oritsefemi released a song recently titled Obey. The song was centered around coronavirus and the fate of the people who do not believe it exists. It was a song for public awareness regarding the ongoing pandemc.
Well, the intentions might be applaudable but the use of the viral video of a woman as she was beaten by the police is completely unacceptable.
Recall that in the first week of the lockdown as a result of the coronavirus, a woman’s video went viral where she was being flogged mercilessly by two policemen in Osun state. She was accused of violating the stay at home order. An offence she did not commit. The Nigerian Police Force went ahead to dismiss the officers who abused the woman.
Now, this same video has been included in Oritsefemi’s Obey official video with claims that the woman serves as an example for people who do not believe coronavirus is in Nigeria.
However, an activist, known as Oluyemi Fasipe with the twitter handle, @YemieFASH reached out to him to make adjustments regarding the video as it is inappropriate and portrays the wrong message. It turned out that Oritsefemi defended the decision to include the clip in the music video.
The lady in question has now come out to say that she feels particularly violated with the use of such video of her without her permission. She also revealed that she reached out to Oritsefemi through email and instagram DM all to no avail.
At the moment, many Nigerians have now called out the act by Oritsefemi classifying it as insensitive, arrogant, ignorant, and supporting police brutality.
