Govt to Harness Opportunities of Nigeria’s Free Trade Zones

Federal Government has stressed the need to harness the potentials of Nigeria’s Free Trade Zones, FTZs.

The Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, FMITI, Dr Nasir Sani-Gwarzo, communicated this message in Abuja yesterday.

He spoke at a one-day sensitization awareness workshop while addressing the topic, “Creating Awareness on the Activities of the Free Trade Zones to Stimulate Investment in The Sub-Sector”.

Sani-Gwarzo hinted that there’s a need to explore the vast opportunities in Nigeria’s free trade zone and look into the strategies for harvesting the potentials to provide employment vacancies and wealth creation.

The Permanent Secretary, represented by the Director of Commodities and Export Department, FMITI, Dr Suleman Audu, noted that the trading zones possess the capacity to establish profitable and sustainable businesses in Nigeria.

He stressed that the committee would improvise with the resources at their disposal to bring about a far-reaching proposal that would increase ventures in the zones, as export markets are recording positive growth.

Gwarzo noted that the government, via the ministry, is pursuing the implementation of Nigeria Economic Sustainability Plan MSME Fund, NESP-F. The program is scheduled to revitalize and strengthen Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, MSMEs in Nigeria.

He urged the private sector to key into the enormous opportunities with investment at the free trade zones.
