Spanish La Liga leaders Real Madrid moved a step closer to winning the 2019/20 La Liga title as they beat Granada 2-1, they are yet to lose a game since the resumption of the league and they are on a sure track to lifting the league title. France defender Ferland Mendy had the opener in the first half of the game with a ferocious finish from a tight angle.
Karim Benzema doubled the lead before they went for the first half break. The home side also found the back of the net in the second half of the game through Darwin Machis who fired through Thibaut Courtois’ legs to give them a lifeline but the game ended 2-1 at the end. Nigerian playmaker Ramon Azeez would have scored the equaliser but Sergio Ramos made a crucial clearance off the line.
Real Madrid has advanced their lead to four points clear of nearest rivals Barcelona with two games remaining in the Spanish La Liga to finish. Given Real Madrid superior head-to-head record over Barcelona, Zinedine Zidane troops need two points from their final two games, at home to fifth-placed Villarreal on Thursday and at relegation-threatened Leganes on Sunday, to win the league.
They have advanced their winning run to nine and if they will be able to win their Thursday game then, they have won the league title. Real boss Zidane after the game said: “We will be back training on Tuesday and we will be back on the pitch on Thursday. The final minutes were tough. Granada made us defend a lot in the second half.”
