Ondo 2020: Group Identifies 11 Flashpoints As INEC Distributes Sensitive Materials

The Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC) has on Thursday distributed sensitive materials to the 18 local government areas of Ondo State at the Central Bank, Akure ahead of the October 10 governorship elections in the state.

It was gathered that election observers were present at the venue to monitor the process of distribution of sensitive election materials at Central Bank, Akure, the Ondo state capital. Also, Herman Thiel, country director, International foundation for electoral systems was at the venue.

Meanwhile, the Youth Initiative for Advocacy Growth and Advancement Africa (YIAGA) has identified 11 Local Government Areas as flashpoints during the forthcoming elections.

The identified flashpoints include Akoko south-west, Akure South, Akure North, Akoko southeast, Akoko North-west, Irele, Idanre, Ese- Odo, Okitipupa, Ilaje, and Owo, out of 18 LG’s

The group while expressing worry about adherence to COVID-19 protocol by voters, however, commended the electoral body for its preparedness.

In the meantime, the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, has again warned politicians against actions and utterances that could be inimical to a free, fair, and credible election.

He reiterates that there have been adequate deployments in terms of manpower, marine and aerial surveillance, and other assets of the force to ensure effective security coverage.
