Nigerian singer and songwriter, Omah Lay has finally broken his silence after the reports of him being arrested in Uganda by the Police.
The ‘Bad Influence‘ crooner was arrested for making an appearance at a concert in the country despite the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic in the region.
This has got Nigerians to trend the hashtag #freeOmahLay on Twitter on Sunday after the news broke out.
The singer’s arrest was as a result of the outcry by local entertainers who claimed international performers were allowed despite the strict order by the government on COVID-19 pandemic.
Omah Lay has however, confirmed the arrest by the Ugandan Police stating that all issues will be sorted out soon.
He tweeted, “Yes I’m with the Ugandan police… something about the show from last night. Everything would be fine“
He went on to urge all his fans not to be afraid of what’s about to come as he noted that things will be fine.
Meanwhile another Nigerian singer, Tems, was also reported to be arrested in Uganda for the same reason after performing for her fans.
The singer also confirmed Tems arrest as he informed his fans and followers about the situation of things with the Ugandan Police.
He questioned why he was arrested when he was not the organizer but just a performer brought on stage.
Omay Lay ,however,sensed foul play as the Ugandan government is not giving him right to fair hearing as well as letting the Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs to get them released as both artistes appeared in court.
According to a statement by the Ugandan Police Force, the plans of releasing them on police bond, were suspended after their casefile was sanctioned by the Office of the DPP.
They were jointly charged with four other Ugandans. All remanded till Wednesday 16.12.2020.
The latest tweet by the Ugandan Police Force Twitter account concerning the case reads, “The Nigerian trio of Stanley Omah Didia alias Omah Lay, Temilade Openyi alias Tems and Muyiwa Awomiyi have been charged to court in Makindye on charges of Negligently doing acts likely to spread an infectious diseases C/S 171 of the Penal Code Act.”
