Olivier Giroud Signs 1yr Contract Extension with Chelsea

France and Chelsea 33-year-old striker Olivier Giroud has signed a contract extension with Chelsea, the English Premier League side has extended the player’s contract by 12 months, which means the France striker will still be at Stamford Bridge next season. Oliver Giroud had made just five Premier League appearances in January and was in the last six months of his contract.

Olivier Giroud joins Argentine goalkeeper Willy Cabellero to sign a contract extension with Chelsea, the player was not given enough playtime this season but after the injury fellow Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham, Giroud, did well to fit in the gap as he scored two goals in four league games. According to the French striker, he said: “I am delighted to continue my journey and adventure at Chelsea.” “I’m looking forward to wearing the Chelsea shirt again, especially in front of our fans at a full Stamford Bridge, whenever it is safe to do so,” the attacker added.

Olivier Giroud joined Chelsea from Arsenal in January 2018 and has made 39 starts and 37 substitute appearances, scoring 21 goals. Giroud scored the last goal for Chelsea in their 4-0 demolition to Everton before the suspension of sporting activities in Europe due to the coronavirus pandemic, in March.

According to Blues boss Frank Lampard he said: “Since I have been back at Chelsea, Olivier has been brilliant as a professional and as a man in general. “He has great qualities to help the squad both on and off the pitch, not only with his talent but with the example he sets every day and the experience he brings to our young squad. I am very pleased that will continue next season.” The Frenchman will be at the club even after this season finishes and he will be with the club for the next one year.
