Ole Gunnar Solskjaer Finally Speaks after Criticism From Fans
Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has finally opened on what really happened following their 3-1 home loss to Paris Saint Germain. The manager also took out time to say the person who is to blame after the game. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said he should possibly have substituted Fred before he was given a red card and that would have helped them maintain a much stage position in the group.
Fred was shown a second yellow card in the 70th minute of the game on a foul committed against a former Manchester United player Ander Herrera after he was booked in the first half for a head-to-head clash with Leandro Paredes. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said: “He was lucky to stay on.” “The referee made a mistake there but that’s allowed.”
He also said he spoke with Fred at half-time and then decided to keep him based on his first-half performance. He further said: “He played well but with the decision the referee made you maybe look back and say you should have [taken him off].” “But there was no reason from his performance to take him off,”Solskjaer added.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said he did not think the foul on Herrera warranted a second yellow card, adding: “It was not a foul. Fred was disciplined in the second half. I asked him to be sensible and he was.” “We know the destiny is in our own hands.” “We know that we play against a good team in Leipzig, who were in the semi-final last year, but we are developing into a better team as well.”
“I was very pleased with the performance [against PSG] apart from of course they were more clinical. Big games most of the time are decided by fine margins and this time they were against us.” He refused to point fingers at Anthony Martial who missed the most chances in the game and took the whole blame but insist Fred’s second half tackle was not a tackle that deserves a card.
