Former Lazio midfielder and Super Eagles midfielder Ogenyi Onazi hopes he will still get a chance to with the Super Eagles of Nigeria, he last featured for the National team in the 2018 World Cup which was played in Russia. Onazi was instrumental in the 2014 World which Nigeria was knocked out by France, he has come out to declare his intentions to come back and play for the three-time African champions,
Ogenyi Onazi who is 27 years of age also played the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying fixture against Seychelles in 2018, having only recovered from a long injury layoff. The former Lazio player however he missed the 2019 AFCON finals due to the injury.
Ogenyi Onazi stated that he is in regular contact with Super Eagles head coach Gernot Rohr and hopes to feature more prominently for his club for a chance to earn a return to the national team. According to him, he said: “I was injured that’s why I wasn’t in the national team, I speak with the coach sometimes, and I also congratulated him on his new deal.”
The player who made 52 appearances for Nigeria and scored once also said: “But you can’t be speaking to the coach all the time, because my job is to play and when I’m doing that pretty well, I’m sure I will be back in the team again.”
