Official Reveals Cause Of Strange Deaths In Enugu

The Enugu State Government has confirmed the cause of the strange deaths in two communities in the state.

It was gathered that a strange illness resulted in the deaths of some people in Ette Uno and Umuopu communities.

According to the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Emmanuel Ikechukwu Obi, Yellow Fever is the cause of the deaths.

Dr Obi said the disease was confirmed through verifiable diagnostic tests.

He said though Yellow Fever is not a new disease but one of public health importance internationally and in Nigeria.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner disclosed that the Enugu State Ministry of Health has called for an Emergency Meeting.

The meeting was held to articulate specific next steps to effectively respond to and control the disease in the State.

Dr Obi noted that the state government will collaborate with the Federal Ministry of Health to prevent its spread within Nigeria. 

He said the General Hospital, Enugu Ezike, and other hospitals in the state are prepared to provide the supportive treatment needed for Yellow Fever.

The symptoms of the illness range from a mild febrile illness in some individuals to a more toxic illness.

However, he stressed the need for hygienic practices.

He urged residents to keep their surroundings clean and free of overgrown bushes.
