In commemoration of the 2020 International Youth Day, former President, Olusegun Obasanjo has advised African youths on what to do to take their place in the political space.
The ex-president advised African youths to come together and use their electoral power to kick out the older generation from all leadership positions.
During a virtual interactive session marking this year’s International Youth Day, Obasanjo said old people will continue to occupy the leadership positions unless they are forced out of the political stage.
According to him, unless the youths squeeze out those who are in the office and those who want to remain in office perpetually, some after the age of 80, they will not want to be out.
He further emphasised the need to subscribe to the constitution of political parties in favour of youths adding that not less than 50 per cent of those who hold executive office within the party will be less than 40 years.
Obasanjo noted that such affirmative action is positive discrimination in favour of youths.
