The National Universities Commission, NUC has announced the resumption date for Nigerian Universities in strict compliance with COVID-19 safety protocols.
According to the commission’s Deputy Executive Secretary, Chris Maiyak, Nigerian Universities will commence academic activities from January 18, 2021
However, Maiyak urged administrators to put necessary safety measures in place to safeguard the lives of staff and students adding that universities must ensure compliance with the full cycle of the semester system.
He noted that officers on Grade Level 12 and below are also to remain at home until further notice.
He disclosed that the order is in accordance with the directive of the Presidential Task Force, PTFon COVID-19.
You will recall that the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) recently called off its 10-month-old industrial action which started in March 2020.
ASUU called off the strike after reaching an agreement with the federal government on issues including the revitalization of public universities, salary shortfall, neglect, and poor funding of state universities.
Others are the absence of visitation panels, and withheld salaries, and non-remittance of dues.
