Northern Youths Kick Against Tinubu’s Relocation of CBN, FAAN, Threatens Coordinated Action

In a decisive stand against the relocation of key departments of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) to Lagos, the Joint-Action Northern Youth Associations, a formidable coalition of 16 civil society organizations in the North, including Arewa Defence League and Arewa Youth for Development, categorically rejects the move orchestrated by the President Bola Tinubu-led administration.

Labelling the relocation as illegal, null, and void, the coalition underscores its assertion that the decision not only disregards established legal norms but also fosters a sense of alienation among northerners.

The group issues a stern warning, declaring that failure to reverse this decision will prompt the mobilization of youths for a comprehensive mass action, encompassing legal, political, and civil avenues to challenge the contentious move.

Emphasising the imperative to uphold the law and maintain a fair balance, the Joint-Action Northern Youth Associations urges the Federal Government to preserve the status quo by retaining the headquarters of both institutions.

The coalition vehemently insists on preventing any manifestation of discrimination, dominion, or marginalization against any region of the country, firmly expressing their opposition to any undermining of Abuja as the Federal Capital.

Amidst escalating tensions, the Northern Youth Coalition serves notice that they are prepared to deploy a strategic combination of legal, political, and civil actions to safeguard their stance, underscoring the importance of preserving unity and fair representation within the nation’s key institutions.
