Northern Elders under the Coalition of North East Elders for Peace and Development CNEEPD, have called on President Muhammadu Buhari to sack the security chiefs given the level of insecurity in the region and some other parts of Nigeria.

The Coalition in a statement signed by its Chairman, Zana Goni also called on President Buhari to rejig the country’s security architecture.

According to the coalition, the worsening security situation in the country has reinforced the urgent need to inject new hands with fresh ideas to handle the nation’s security architecture.

The President was advised to bring in new hands to effectively confront the security challenges confronting the nation’s unity.

The elders noted that the security situation under the current service chiefs has reached an unbearable state adding that the entire nation is distressed by the incessant mindless killing of its citizens by insurgents, bandits and kidnappers.

The coalition stated that the incessant killings have resulted in indescribable agony, anguish and torment to the Nigerian citizens.

They further urged President Buhari to honour the resolution of the National Assembly and positions of the majority of Nigerians to immediately remove the service chiefs.

Earlier, members of the Coalition of North-Central Elders have asked President Buhari to sack the service chiefs as they also expressed concerns over the increasing level of attacks in various parts in the North.

They opined that themselves and several other Nigerians voted President Buhari into office in 2015 and 2019 because of his experience as a military head of state. In a statement signed by its chairman, Usman Bida, the coalition added that they expect Buhari to prosecute the war against insecurity in the country.

According to the coalition, the continued retention of the service chiefs for the last five years running is totally against the wishes of Nigerians.
