Veteran Nollywood actress Bimbo Akintola has sparked a heated debate after declaring that many of today’s actresses appear more passionate about enhancing their bodies than honing their craft.
Speaking in a recent interview with fellow actress Ayo Adesanya, the 55-year-old screen icon expressed disappointment at the shift in focus she has observed within the industry. According to her, while the older generation of actresses poured their hearts into storytelling and character interpretation, many in the new wave seem to prioritize aesthetics and body enhancement procedures like Brazilian Butt Lifts (BBL).
Akintola pointed to Nollywood greats such as Sola Sobowale, Joke Silva, and other icons as examples of what she described as “pure, unwavering passion for acting.” She noted that their careers were built on raw talent, resilience, and dedication to the craft, rather than physical appearances.
Her comments have since ignited conversations both within the industry and among fans, with some agreeing that the new generation places more emphasis on social media appeal and physical transformation, while others argue that the landscape of entertainment has simply evolved with changing audience demands.
Bimbo Akintola’s candid remarks highlight a growing conversation in Nollywood about the balance between artistry and image, raising questions about where the industry is headed and what truly defines success for the next generation of actors.
