France Football has announced that the prestigious Ballon d’Or award will be hosted this year 2020, according to them they said the prize will not be handed out this season due to “lack of sufficient fair conditions” They made a statement recently saying they will be no Ballon d’Or winner in 2020, with France Football announcing that due to the “lack of sufficient fair conditions” a prize that has been dominated by Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo in recent times will not be awarded for this year’s football calendar.
The Ballon d’Or award has been since 1956, the prestigious Golden Ball is always handed out to the best player on the planet after every football calendar and it has been so since 1956. The France Football said they are, however, living in extraordinary times and the decision has been taken that it would not be right to pick out a leading performer given the circumstances in which professional sport is currently being played out.
This decision is due to the Coronavirus Pandemic which spoilt the football calendar for many leagues, most of the league had their leagues terminated prematurely while others are been played behind closed doors. The last one was won by Argentine and Barcelona 31-year-old skipper Lionel Messi. The prestigious award will have wait till 2021 when the whole of this pandemic will be all over.
With the recent changes, the 2019 winner (Lionel Messi) will keep the crown for the next 12 months. The player has the highest Ballon d’Or award, he has won six so far followed by Juventus and Portugal star player Cristiano Ronaldo. This season would have had the likes of Manchester City playmaker Kevin de Bruyne, Raheem Sterling, Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes, Paulo Dybala, Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, Mbape, Neymar and a couple of some Bundesliga players.
