The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC and Trade Union Congress TUC, have threatened to shut down the economy.
The union issued the threats amidst plans by the House of Representatives to move the minimum wage legislation from Exclusive List to Concurrent List.
According to the National President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Mr Ayuba Wabba, the organised labour would resist the proposed legislation’s passage.
Wabba said the decision to vest in the Federal Government to fix minimum wage was in tandem with international best practices.
However, he blamed the problem associated with the non-implementation of the N30,000 minimum wage on bad governance.
The NLC Boss opined that the country would have more than enough to pay minimum wage if the massive security votes have been used to address insecurity.
Lawmaker Garba Muhammad had earlier sponsored a bill to transfer the minimum wage prescription from the exclusive legislative list.
According to Muhammad, the Bill was part of the measure required to ensure true federalism and its devolution.
Muhammad noted that it was improper for the Federal Government to impose the N30,000 minimum wage on states, considering the differences in their income and resources.
Meanwhile, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Honourable Femi Gbajabiamila, revealed that final decision on the issue had not been made yet.
He assured workers that the House would not wish away the organised labour position on the proposed legislation.
