The National Identity Management Commission, NIMC has issued a new directive on the linking of National Identification Number, NIN generated via Bank Verification Number, BVN to sim cards.
According to the Commission, the generation of NIN via BVN can only be relevant after it has been updated at the NIMC enrollment Center.
The NIMC, however, advised people who are yet to complete the process of linking NIN to their sim cards to update their biometrics to validate their NIN.
In a tweet, the Commission noted that SIM-NIN integration will be invalid if the NIN was generated through the BVN record harmonization without updating it.
The NIMC further warned that people without the upgraded Biometrics will not be able to access the NIMC mobile app.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami has earlier harped on the possibility of linking multiple sim cards to a NIN.
According to the Minister, up to seven SIM cards can be linked to one NIN through the Mobile App recently launched by the NIMC.
The Minister said an improved NIN slip and a Mobile App were approved as part of the policy to improve the process of obtaining NIN and linking it to SIM (read more here)
