Nigerians React to Proposed 5Bn Palliative for States

Share

Nigerians have reacted with cynicism to the recently proposed 5 billion naira palliative for States. Despite the desperate need for poverty alleviation, many Nigerians doubt whether the money will ever reach the people it is intended for.

With multiple Government Officials already in possession of the money, along with numerous stories of massive embezzlement, it’s little wonder why citizens remain sceptical.

While some Nigerians applauded the initiative, they still expressed concern over accountability, pointing out the high possibility that the Governors may not do the needful with the funds.

Others compared the money to shackle government officials, already enmeshed in corrupt practices, using the palliative to further line their pockets.

Many people snickered at the notion of Governors receiving funds to help poorer states without any accountability as to how it would be used.

The reactions on X-Twitter alone show how concerned the populace is following the previous experience regarding palliatives in the country.
