Some parts of the bill which a lot of Nigerians are infuriated about includes:
- The bill seeks to empower the NCDC to administer vaccines to curb the spread of any disease.
- Every person on an international voyage, whether leaving or arriving in Nigeria will have to show proof of vaccination.
- Any person arriving in Nigeria will be subjected to a minimum of 14 days of isolation.
- There is also power vested on the DG of NCDC to disband any gathering which he deems dangerous in his opinion.
- Any police officer is allowed to arrest anyone without a warrant if he has reasons to believe the person is going against any part of the NCDC bill.
- There is also a huge restriction of movement as there will be a need for several passes to various places.
- The DG of NCDC will have the power to get anyone he deems fit vaccinated with any vaccine, even those yet to be produced.
- Only the minister of health can address any complaint levelled in line with this bill, and his decision will be final. (This is a significant infringement on human rights)
Well, as it stands now, lots of Nigerians are voicing their opinion and seeking for a public hearing. Also, many lawmakers have come up to say that they do not only have an understanding of what the bill entails; it was not also circulated before the first hearing.
