Nigerian Youth say #EndSWAT
Responding to the protests and clamour for the scrapping of the Federal Anti-Robbery Squad (F-SARS), the Inspector General of Police announced the set up of a new police unit , SWAT to replace the dissolved SARS unit.
This announcement did not sit well with Nigerians and this led to the birth of a new campaign #EndSWAT. SWAT which stands for Special Weapons and Tactics Squad was created to fill the loopholes created by the SARS unit over the years but it will mostly consist of the same officers who will be taken through different recruitment processes according to the plan set up by the Police force.
Nigerians are uncomfortable with this new development and have started a new campaign calling for an end to the prospective SWAT team. Nigerian celebrities and other youths took to twitter to express their dissatisfaction with tweets calling for the abolishment of the new unit. Here are some of the tweets;
