NIGERIANS AND PARTY LIFE

Share

There is no place like my country in the whole wide world. Nigeria, a country blessed by God has great people in the great nation. No matter the problem we are facing as an individual, family or as a nation, we have found a way to pass the test of times. The economy might be so harsh and difficult to understand but we still find a way to stand tall. No wonder famous rapper, Lil Wayne said ‘’I’m tougher than Nigerian hair’’. He surely knew Nigeria is tougher so he came up with that line in the hit, ‘A Milli’.

One way we ease ourselves out of the several problems we are facing is through partying and having fun. This makes us a happy people, a force to be reckoned with in the world. From the south, north, east and west, there is always a thing to celebrate. Birthdays, naming, wedding, burial, festivals, political jamborees are few of our partying schedules.

I would agree that Nigeria comes on top when it comes to celebration in the whole world. The number of public and national holidays we have in a calendar year really showed we are the life of the party. Musicians are extremely wealthy people in this part of the world because their attention is always needed by the people at the top sharing the national cake and other people.  Show business is a top industry in the country. It could even compete with the oil industry the government relies on.

Weekends in Nigeria should probably be renamed ‘Party Days’ or ‘Owambe-days’. There is hardly a place you would visit especially in the South of Nigeria that is devoid of a party. Major roads in the southwestern parts are shutdown for parties. We say no to cremation but yes to jubilation of our dead ones; their life after death is their most lavish one.

Political campaigns and rallies is part of our entertainment industry. We look out for the best dancer among our leaders instead of proffering solutions to our several issues.  It is really a place of jamboree; a musical concert on American soil won’t beat a political rally in Lagos or Port Harcourt.

It’s another weekend, people are already preparing for another way of relieving their pains and stresses. Women are really tying their gele (headgears) like singer Teni said and the men are bringing their fashion A-game to town. The party is actually going down from Abakaliki to Ogbomosho. Nigerians are used to the word ‘turn up’, it is the official language for the party days. Partying is our way of life. No better days to know more about our lifestyles, it is well taught in our gatherings.
