Senate Deliberates On Procurement Of COVID-19 Vaccines
Senate President, Ahmed Lawan has announced the indefinite adjournment of plenary following the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in the country.
Lawan said the Upper Chamber would reconvene when there are urgent matters to be legislated upon.
Meanwhile, the lawmakers recommended that the Federal Government rejig the strategy and structures for the response to the Coronavirus pandemic.
According to the Senate, the recommendation is to ensure better coordination between Federal, state, and local governments as well as the private sector.
You will recall that the House of Representatives, lawmakers have resolved to hold plenary at least once every week.
The decision followed a motion raised by Abubakar Fulata at the resumed plenary on Tuesday.
Fulata sponsored the motion entitled “Regulating Plenary Sittings in the Period of COVID-19 Pandemic and Lockdown”, under Order One, Rule 1 (2) of the Standing Orders of the House.
Also, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila has called on President Muhammadu Buhari led administration to take advantage of the unique insights of federal legislators in targeting the distribution of some essential palliatives to the needy.
He also disclosed that he had established a Covid-19 Strategic Response Team (CRST).
