Alhaji Rabiu Inuwa has expressed his optimism that at least one Nigerian referee will officiate at the Qatar 2022 World Cup. Rabiu is the chairman of Executive committee member of Nigeria Football Federation Referees Committee.
Alhaji Inuwa in made it known during the 2020/2021 FIFA fitness test for Nigerian referees. NFF has been grooming young referees who will represent Nigeria in Qatar 2022. He said he is hopeful that at least one Nigerian referee will officiate at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
According to the chairman, he said they have groomed some group of young referees. The process has been going well and in our domestic league and at the continental level. Rabiu said he is very sure that FIFA has noticed their improvement and will consider one of them.
He confirmed that It has been their goal to have one Nigerian to officiate in the World Cup. Now their performance has further improved since then. Our boys have come of age, and I am sure their development will not be overlooked by FIFA.
He said the global pandemic did not help their development. According to him, they have not been involved in football activities since early this year. Rabiu added that the NFF in liaison with the Nigeria Football Referees Association to get them up to speed.
Thirty FIFA badged referees attended the training in which Alhaji Inuwa charged them to be good ambassadors of Nigeria and to work diligently to be among the best in the world.
