Nigerian Officer Picked For UN Woman Police Officer Award

A Nigerian officer has been selected for the  United Nations- UN Woman police officer award.

CSP Ugorji Catherine who serves with the UN Multidimensional Integrated Stabilisation Mission in Mali (MINUSMA)was picked by UN

The international organization selected two African women as runners-up for the said award, one of which is Catherine Ugorji.

The other lady is Chief Inspector Doreen Malambo of Zambia who serves with UN Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS)

Joining the Nigerian police force in 2003, Ugorji started as a crime investigator at the local level.

Afterward she to the regional level, Child Protection Officer, Divisional Crime Officer and then Acting Deputy Commander in Lagos.

UN Woman Police Officer Award

Oluseyi Soremekun, National Information Officer of the UN system in Nigeria commended her.

He said that she shows best of policing through her words and actions.

The UN reported that out of the 1,300 UN policewomen that were sent out in UN Peacekeeping Operations,21 were shortlisted for the award.

However Doreen and Catherine were selected as the awardee and runner-up respectively.The award will be presented on Tuesday, the 3rd of November, 2020.

UN Police Advisor, Luis Carrillo described Ugorji leadership and work to improve the lives of women in police as remarkable.
