Nigeria has a lot of local delicacies among which is Pocho soup common to the Benue people of Middle-Belt, Nigeria. It is one of the numerous delicacies to the people and it is peculiar with the Tiv tribe of Benue state.
Pocho is a sauce with a blend of meat, onions, peppers, palm oil, locust beans and seasoning. It is always watery kind of soup that can be combined with other soups such as okra, vegetable to suit ones taste.
This particular soup can be eaten with different kinds of food such as rice, yam, or swallow/solid foods such as semo, eba, fufu, pounded yam, and so on.
The necessary ingredients for making Pocho soup include meat (beef, mutton, chicken, or pork), fish, pepper. onion, palm oil, locust beans, seasoning, salt, and water.
The first step in preparing this special delicacy is to blend the pepper, onion, and locust beans. This is then poured into a cooking pot with pre-seasoned meat added.
A little water is added to cook the pre-seasoned meat and then oil in small quantity. Seasoning and salt are then added to taste. This is then cooked in medium heat for few minutes till it get done. Water can be added again if needed to be watery.
Pocho soup can be eaten alone or with other soups such as okro, jute, and so on.
This soup is one of the delicacies widely eaten among the Tiv people of Benue state. This particular food is one of their rich culture and traditions.
