Nigerian Labour Congress Addresses Rot in Power Sector

Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC, has expressed its displeasure towards the present state of the power sector in Nigeria.

The Chairman, Oyo State Chapter, Comrade Kayode Martins, stated that since the privatisation of the sector, it has only been a blessing to those benefiting from the rottenness while multiplying the sufferings of the poor masses.

The Comrade mentioned this point when addressing the public at a symposium organised by the Coalition for Affordable and Regular Electricity, CARE, over the weekend in Ibadan, Oyo State.

He said that the privatisation of electricity had increased the suffering of many Nigerians, adding that the theme of the event, which is “Privatisation of Electricity, Curse or Blessing?” is apt.

The NLC State Chairman stated that electricity privatisation would have a more significant benefit to Nigerians, mainly the artisans, if the private sector operators sold electricity to the right people.

While speaking further, he lamented that some Nigerian youths and artisans have become jobless due to erratic power supply by electricity distribution companies.
