Given the public outcry that follows the invitation extended to Kaduna state governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai by the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, the Association has withdrawn the invitation.
According to the NBA, the National Executive Committee of the association at its ongoing meeting resolved that the invitation to El-Rufai be withdrawn.
The committee resolved that the decision should be communicated to the Governor adding that he needs more time to focus on tackling the killings in the Southern part of Kaduna State.
Earlier, the governor was invited by the 2020 Annual General Conference Planning Committee to speak at the NBA’s annual general conference.
Several Nigerian lawyers had in the past days registered their discontent over the invitation of El-Rufai to the conference schedule to hold between August 26-29.

Also, Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief Justice of Nigeria, Tanko Muhammad, former President, Olusegun Obasanjo, former Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu and Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami were invited.
