A yet to be confirmed report indicated that the former Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Tukur Buratai allegedly ordered the secret execution of six soldiers from the eastern part of Nigeria following a hasty secret trial.
According to a coalition of rights activists and scholars, the executed soldiers were denied legal representation of their choice.
In a report made available to News Express, the Coalition said it was informed of the execution by an international human rights lawyer., Barr E.R. Okoroafor.
Also, the report alleged that the secret execution of the six Igbo Christian soldiers, attached to the Armory Department of the Nigerian Army, Abacha Barracks in Abuja took place on Monday, January 25, 2021
Everyevery.ng gathered that the slain soldiers are Prince Ukwuoma, Ebube Isaiah, Amos Azubuike, Ekene Ebere, Moses Anyim and Godwin Uchendu.
The international human rights lawyer, Okoroafor disclosed that the secret execution follows an allegation of missing weapons at Abacha Barracks.
He added that their trial was totally shrouded in secrecy and while their constitutional right of appeal to Court of Appeal and Supreme Court was also denied.
Meanwhile, the Coalition that raised the alarm of the secret execution noted that there had been several dismissals involving soldiers of old Eastern Nigeria extraction.
In the meantime, the Nigerian Army has described the report as fake and misleading.
