A Fulani group identified as Gan Allah Fulani Development Association has reacted to the ban of open grazing in the southwest and south-south regions.
The National Secretary of the Fulani Association, Ibrahim Abdullahi, described the decision as unfortunate and capable of putting Nigeria’s unity on the line. He added that the resolution was impossible because the governors have not made an alternative plan for herders.
According to him, the ban on open grazing would promote hatred between Southerners and Northerners. He opined that the resolution reached to ban open grazing does not promote unity.
Abdullahi further explained that the south governors could not stop people’s means of livelihood and expect peace to reign, adding that such a move implies that the unity of Nigeria is going to be in question.
You will recall that the southern governors had on July 5, 2021 unanimously agreed to ban open grazing in their region. The governors gave a deadline of September 1 for the ban to take effect in their respective states.
EveryEvery.ng had reported that a former Presidential spokesman, Reno Omokri lambasted the Attorney General of the Federation, AGF, Abubakar Malami, over his stands on the ban on Open Grazing in the Southern part of Nigeria.
The AGF, Malami, had during an interview on Channels Television opined that banning Open Grazing in the South is like when Northern governors come together to ban the trade of spare parts in the North.
Malami noted that the best approach for the Southern governors is to approach the National Assembly on the need to prohibit Open Grazing through an amended constitution.
Reacting to Malami’s position on Open grazing, Omokri noted that if Nigerians can not openly rear pigs in the North, local and foreign herders can’t do open grazing of cows in the Southern region.
He opined that Southern states could ban open grazing if Northern states can ban beer and pig farming. According to Reno, the comment by Malami shows that the Buhari-led administration is entirely behind killer herders.
