Nigeria has stamped its position on the conflict between the Russian and Ukrainian Governments and has inquired to know the conditions of Nigeria Diasporans in the two foreign countries.
Understanding that the crisis between the warring nations is becoming tenser, the Federal Government of Nigeria summoned both the Russian Ambassador and that of the Ukrainian to respond to questions and give an update on the current situation of things.
Yesterday, in a separate meeting Geoffrey Onyeama, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and his delegates held with the Russian Representative, Alexei Shebarshin, the wellbeing of our citizens over there were prioritized, including the need for both countries to settle their differences amicably.
Onyeama said he told the Russian envoy that we wouldn’t condone the violation of the territorial integrity of a United Nations Member State, a country with which we have diplomatic relations.
The Minister also said that he told Shebarshin that Nigeria wanted Russia to revert to the status quo before the military action and prioritize diplomacy and dialogue.
Responding, Amb Shebarshin promised that our citizens are safe over there, adding that Russia is only attacking military facilities and has no intention to invade civilian residences.
On the other hand, during the meeting with the Ukrainian Amb, Kirdola Valerii, Onyeama said the government sympathized with Ukraine regarding its situation as a country and as a people.
