New Music: Falz Returns to His Comic Self

Months after the release of his “controversial” social commentary album, Moral Instruction, Folarin Falana aka Falz the Bahd Guy returns to his comical side of his music with a new single which he released a few days ago.

His last album included social commentary songs in the likes of “Talk”, “Hypocrite”, “Johnny” highlighting different aspects of Nigeria’s shortcomings. Moral Instruction does this on the sampling of Fela’s music on the background. Before the album he’d released a video of his own version of Childish Gambino’s “This is America” which he titled “This is Nigeria”.

The new song, Alakori, features Dice Ailes.
Dice takes the pre-hook and hook to Alakori while we wait Falz rap verse. When the raps, we hear his popular speech imitation of a poorly educated Yoruba man speaking English with so much linguistic interference. Falz steps down from the soapbox of heavy satire that was his last project.

Alakori is a song about flamboyant wealthy persons –  probably a Nigerian politician or anyone with ties to power and a Yahoo boy. The bragging and wagging of mouth are what constitute the entire song’s makeup. One enjoys the publicity, the other not so much.

Dice Ailes recently became popular for his smash hit,  Otedola. He is relatively new to the music scene but he is doing quite well. His delivery of the hook in Yoruba laced with slivers of English fits just fine. It is a complimenting accompaniment to Falz’s almost weak verses.

Falz isn’t in his best here, but it is worth listening to. The song was produced by Chillz.

Alakori is available on various music streaming and downloading platforms online.
