New Charges Pile Up Against Nnamdi Kanu

In what looks to be new charges accumulated against Nnamdi Kanu, the Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, the Federal Government has accused the political activist of causing the death of sixty people in Nigeria.

The IPOB leader was also accused of orchestrating the vandalisation and destruction of properties in fifty-five violent altercations across the South-East and South-South zones within four months.

In the recent past, it was learnt that Kanu conducted his regular inciteful radio broadcast online from his hideout in London, issuing series of commands to ”his militia and other members of the outlawed organisation” on acts of violence to be committed within Nigeria.

A letter from the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs to the Western Diplomats contained the Government’s accusations of the activist on crimes committed within the period of his absence.

The letter mentioned some of the alleged instructions by Kanu, which are to hunt down the Fulani, attack governor Obiano of Anambra state, and kill any landlord that gives accommodation to government security personnel.

New Charges Against Nnamdi Kanu

An instance of some of the atrocities masterminded by Nnamdi Kanu, as cited in the letter, is the claim by Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State that the IPOB leader ordered members of his group to assassinate him.

The letter partly revealed that Kanu further instructed his members to take the lives of other South-East Governors, a message, the governor said, was repeatedly communicated via Radio Biafra.

Kanu, also accused of being the brains behind the attack and setting ablaze of the private residence of the Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, killing two security men attached to the house.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs made frantic efforts to counter the opinions of an unnamed Western Nation whose Government is Pro-Kanu. The ministry objected to the country for saying the creation of the Eastern Security Network, ESN, based on its understanding, was to combat insecurity.

It said it considered the statement by the Western nation as ” justifying the establishment of a militia by a non-state actor and glossing over the destructive and violent acts of IPOB and the ESN.”

The Nigeria Government argued that the (western nation) position appears to have further emboldened Nnamdi Kanu and his followers.
