The Netherlands was able to put in a late goal from Denzel Dumfries to claim all three points from Ukraine in the first game of the Euro 2020. Dumfries headed a dramatic late winner to earn the Netherlands victory. Ukraine fought hard to come back from 2-0 down to 2-2 before the late goal came.

The Group C thriller was played in Amsterdam. Dutch manager Frank de Boer is hoping to use Euro 2020 to tell the fans he is the right man for the job after an unconvincing start in the role.

The Netherlands took the lead just eight into the game courtesy of Paris Saint Germain new signing Georginio Wijnaldum. He pounced from inside the box to open the scoring before Wout Weghorst doubled the lead.

But Ukraine came back into the game through Andriy Yarmolenko’s outstanding 25-yard dipping finish to make the scores 2-1. Four minutes after Yermolenko’s goal, Roman Yaremchuk headed in the equaliser to silence the Dutch fans. Things went back to normal for the Dutch team as Dumfries scored an 85th-minute header to earned the Netherlands victory over the Ukrainians. They announced they had come back well after seven-year of absence from the tournament.
