Season five of Black Mirror is coming to Netflix on June 5th. The fifth outing of Charlie Brooker’s award-winning future dystopia will star Andrew Scott. The priest and love interest from the second and final series of Fleabag.
The trailer, released today, shows him playing a character incensed by a society that is dangerously hooked on technology. He ends up going on a rampage that culminates in a shootout with police.
Miley Cyrus will star as a purple-haired pop star of the future in an episode seemingly about fandom and the Alexa of tomorrow. A doll who also wears a purple wig and who is described as a poison getting access to a young woman’s home.
Season five of the show will contain just three episodes. But Netflix and Black Mirror’s producers seem to have attracted a great deal of talent to compensate.
According to Variety, actors for this season include familiar faces like Anthony Mackie, Andrew Scott, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Miley Cyrus, Topher Grace, Nicole Beharie and Angourie Rice.
It also says Cyrus seems to be taking part in a meta storyline. Portraying a performer who has “undergone a transformation in order to rise to a higher level of fame.”
Black Mirror is an Emmy-winning anthology series that taps into the collective unease with the modern world through unsettling tales that explore techno-paranoia. The acclaimed series is created and written by Charlie Brooker, who executive produces with Annabel Jones.
