Officials of the anti-drug agency, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, have arrested a notorious drug baron, Asekun Kehinde Bakiru, at the Murtala Muhammad International Airport Ikeja, Lagos state.
According to Femi Babafemi, the Director, Media and Advocacy, NDLEA, Asekun, a former Vice Chairman of the Lagos Island East Local Council Development council, LCDA has been on the wanted list of the anti-drug agency.
Babafemi revealed that NDLEA operatives arrested the drug baron while trying to board a Virgin Atlantic airline flight to London, the United Kingdom, following the arrest of some drug traffickers and drug seizures linked to him.
EveryEvery.ng gathered that the suspected drug baron is a seasoned politician, he contested the elections for the House of Representatives and Lagos State House of Assembly in 2007 and 2015 respectively.
The NDLEA said its operatives recovered the total sum of 145 million naira from the wanted drug baron.
Meanwhile, the NDLEA has advised candidates scheduled for screening as narcotic officers and narcotic assistants and other job seekers not to fall for some scammers sending them messages to demand payment from them.
The NDLEA noted that some fraudsters sent messages to some shortlisted candidates and other job seekers to make payment into some phoney bank accounts to secure employment slots.
The Agency opined that the general public should please note that the NDLEA will not ask for payment from anyone seeking to work in the Agency.
