A viral video has sparked outrage across social media after a woman, who was reportedly given ₦550,000 to start a business, was spotted back on the streets begging with her children. The disturbing footage has now drawn the attention of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), which has called for the immediate rescue of the children involved.
The clip captures a heated confrontation between the benefactor and the woman. The man, visibly shocked, reminded her of the financial support he had provided for her to set up a shop and become self-reliant. In response, the woman claimed her husband absconded with the entire sum the same day she received it. However, the man dismissed her explanation, pointing out that she never mentioned having a husband during their earlier interactions.
He accused her of deceiving him, stressing that he had to solicit donations from others to raise the ₦550,000 and warning that her actions could damage his reputation.
As the video circulated widely, NAPTIP reacted via its official X (formerly Twitter) account, stating:
“Abeg even if na to add location once once, e go help us to dey locate these cases. Those kids need to be rescued ASAP.”
The agency’s response has further fueled public debate, with many Nigerians demanding immediate intervention to protect the children, who appear to be the most vulnerable victims in the unfolding saga.
This latest development adds to the growing concern over the exploitation of children in street begging, raising questions about accountability, parental responsibility, and the need for stronger social support systems.
