It was reported that at 4 am on Feb 20, 2020 one CPL OYELI NOWONM – 94 BN with Army NO – 09NA/63/2239 started shooting sporadically within the military camp around Alfa And Bravo Coy Flank.
All efforts made to apprehend the rampaging soldier failed as he ended up killing 2 of his fellow soldiers and injuring 3 others before shooting himself as well.
The particulars of the 2 soldiers killed are:
(1) 16NA/75/6031 PTE KPENKPEN PETER – 94 BN.
(2) 17NA/76/5959 PTE MOHAMMED USMAN – 68 BN.
While 16NA/75/4849 PTE MAIKUDI YUSUF, 16NA/75/3013 PTE ABUBAKAR SAGIR AND 16NA/75/6067 PTE HAMZA ABUBAKAR all from 94 BN sustained various degrees of gunshot wounds.
Investigation is ongoing to unravel the immediate and remote cause of the soldier’s action.
