NAFDAC Issues Caution On Alcohol Abuse

The National Agency for Foods and Drugs Administration and Control, NAFDAC has issued a caution on alcohol abuse.

In a statement signed by the Director-General of NAFDAC, Professor Mojisola Adeyeye, the agency raised concerns about the sale and consumption of alcoholic beverages in sachets, small volume glass and bottles.

The agency also expressed concerns over the negative effects of irresponsible alcohol consumption on public health and on the safety and security of the public.

According to NAFDAC, the World Health Organisation, WHO has identified alcohol consumption as one of the factors responsible for about three million deaths each year globally.

Meanwhile, the NAFDAC-DG stated that the agency has worked towards ensuring that all alcoholic beverages and other regulated products approved by the agency meet set standards of quality.

It was also gathered that the Federal Ministry of Health is concerned about the high incidence of substance and alcohol abuse in the country.

However, the Federal Government has indicated plans to completely phase out the high concentration of alcohol in sachet and small Polyethylene and glass bottles in the country.
